About two weeks ago, Mallory gave a moving Story of Self. Her speech made the point that we often tend to see a problem but expect that someone else will take the initiative to solve it. The problem is, the solution isn't always so easy. If we have the time and resources to help, then why not?
Here are a few simple ways to help the Earth:
1. Donate your old clothes
2. Bring reusable bags to the grocery store and the mall
3. Conserve home energy: close doors, unplug appliances, turn off lights, and shut down computers. Use a toaster oven instead of the full oven when cooking smaller meals.
4. Use less gas: lighten your car (maybe you should take out those boxes that have been sitting around in your trunk), drive smoothly, and stay under 60 mph. Also follow the well-voiced routine of carpooling and keeping your tire pressure in check.
5. Cancel catalog subscriptions
6. Skip bottled water and take shorter showers
7. Borrow books instead of buying
8. Repurpose things: you can turn a wine bottle into a vase, redesign clothing, make jewelry and headbands. P.S.-I made this is an amazing site showcasing do-it-yourself handiwork.
9. Buy local produce and try being vegetarian at least one day a week
10. Recycle! It’s a no-brainer and you’ve been hearing it all your life.
