Hey UAEC members,

Thanks to everyone who showed up to the UAEC's Holly Jolly Plant Swap on Sunday. Mint plants were bountiful.

Hopefully good grades on finals will be bountiful, too. Take a breather from all that last-minute studying/grading to write down the following dates for the environmental projects and events coming up next semester:

National Teach-In
(www.nationalteachin.org) on Global Warming Solutions will be held on campus Feb. 4-5. Anyone seeking to get involved--including faculty members--should contact Justinn Trott: justin.trott@gmail.com.

PowerShift will be held in Washington, D.C., Feb. 27 - Mar. 2. The conference teaches how to influence environmental policies on and off campus. See www.powershift09.org for more details. Funding for PowerShift is available for a limited number of attendants from the UAEC. Send an E-mail to UAEC Glass Recycling Coordinator Mika Carpenter mikacarpenter@aol.com if you're interested in going.

SGA Department of Environmental Concerns Energy Conservation Campaign, which is part of A GREENER WAY FOR UA, will start at the beginning of next semester. To earn a highly valuable role as Energy Conservation Coordinator in your residential hall, contact Justinn Trott at justinn.trott@gmail.com.

Help get a COMPOSTING PROJECT going at UA Arboretum. Contact Kristina Hopkins-Jones for more information: khjones@fa.ua.edu.

Apr. 13-Apr. 18 - GREEN WEEK - The SGA's week-long series of events with environmental themes.
A tentative list of happenings:
Mon. - Green Fashion Show
Tues. - Tie-De in Ferguson Plaza
Wed. - Screening of Wall-E with Fair Trade Coffee
Thurs. - Critical Mass Bike Ride
Fri. - "Green"-themed Step Show
Sat. - "Green" Guerrilla Theater

To get involved in GREEN WEEK, contact Justinn Trott: justinn.trott@gmail.com

Apr. 19 - EARTHFEST, a celebration of the planet hosted by the UAEC, will be held on the quad.

The next UAEC meeting will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. in 109 Carmichael Hall. The meeting will be followed by dinner at Maharaja.

Do you have suggestions on how The University of Alabama can introduce policies regarding sustainability? Send your ideas to uaec@bama.ua.edu.

Happy Holidays!
