SGA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS MEETING – NOV. 5
Get involved in campus policy. SGA Department of Environmental Concerns meets 8 p.m. on Wednesday in room 204 A of the Ferguson Center (on the other side of Starbucks).
WILD & SCENIC ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL – NOV. 6
Alabama Rivers Alliance and the Alabama Environmental Council will be hosting a Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival featuring the film Oil and Water at the McWane Science Center in Birmingham. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Get information and tickets at www.alabamarivers.org/wild.
GLASS RECYCLING DRIVE - NOV. 7 – DRIVERS NEEDED
A Glass Recycling Drive will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 5th Ave. in front of the Student Recreation Center. Please bring your clean glass in bags or boxes so that it can be transported with ease. If you can take a load of glass to Birmingham this Friday, E-mail UAEC Glass Recycling Coordinator Mika Carpenter at mikacarpenter@aol.com.
NEW COLLEGE/UAEC CAMPING TRIP – NOV. 8 - 9
UAEC members (even you who just read our E-mails) are invited to be part of the annual New College retreat, which entails a weekend of camping and sailing at Lake Tuscaloosa. The trip will take place Nov. 8-9. Bring camping gear or rent discounted supplies from University of Alabama Outdoor Recreation at the Student Rec Center.
If you’re interested in going and want more information, send an E-mail with “TRIP” as the subject line to uaec@bama.ua.edu. Please include your contact information. Also, be sure to stop by the New College office in Carmichael Hall to pay the trip’s $10 fee, which includes dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday.
JOHN WATHEN’S PRESENTATION OF “COAL TRUTH” – NOV. 14
To observe the Rainforest Action Network’s National Day of Action against the coal industry and its financiers, local environmental activist and Hurricane Creek’s keeper John Wathen will present “Coal Truth,” a presentation about mountaintop removal and the coal industry, on Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. at Maxwell Hall on Stadium Drive (across from the Bruno Business library).
